Helicopter shuttle darshan from Phungling

Short helicopter shuttles from Phungling, Phidim or Kanyam land near the summit so you can walk the last stretch to the shrine, make your offerings and fly back the same morning, weather permitting.

  • 2–3 hours
  • Early morning, Oct–Nov and Mar–May
  • ≈ ₹7,000–25,000 per seat depending on base

Helicopter darshan has grown fast at Pathibhara because it removes the long climb for older and less fit pilgrims. Operators run shared shuttles in the main seasons from Phungling, Phidim, Kanyam and Dharan, filling the helicopter with four or five passengers and flying back and forth through the morning. From Phungling the flight takes only a few minutes; from Kanyam or Dharan it is closer to half an hour.

Flights only operate in clear weather, usually from first light until cloud closes in around late morning. Because of the altitude, a helicopter carries fewer people up here than on the plains, so groups may be split across two sorties. From the landing area there is still a short, steep walk to the shrine, and time on top is usually limited to around 30 to 45 minutes before the return flight. Fares are per seat, paid in Nepali rupees, and change with fuel prices.

Flying straight to 3,800 m gives your body no time to adjust. Most healthy people feel only mild breathlessness, but anyone with heart or lung disease, uncontrolled blood pressure or pregnancy should not fly to this altitude. Keep a spare day: in a cloudy week, flights may not run at all.

Questions travellers ask

How much is the Pathibhara helicopter fare?

Shared seats have been quoted locally at about NPR 10,000 from Phungling, NPR 22,000 from Phidim and NPR 32,000–35,000 from Dharan or Kanyam per person, return. Prices change with fuel costs and demand, so check current status before you travel; we confirm the fare when booking.

Does the helicopter land at the temple?

It lands at a landing area near the summit, not at the shrine itself. From there you walk a short, steep section to the temple. Landing rules can change with construction and local decisions, so check current status before you travel.

What happens if the helicopter cannot fly?

Shuttles stop when cloud covers the summit or winds are strong. You wait for the next clear morning or walk up from Kafle Pati instead. Unused seat fares are normally refunded by the operator, minus any agreed charges; we keep one spare day in every heli yatra plan.
