In Kathmandu, Dwarika's Hotel sets the benchmark, with courtyards built from salvaged Newar carvings and a spa. International brands include the Hyatt Regency near Boudhanath and the Kathmandu Marriott, while Hotel Yak & Yeti occupies part of a Rana-era palace off Durbar Marg. Private guides take you into Patan and Bhaktapur before crowds arrive, and evenings can include a private Newari dinner. A 6-night Kathmandu–Pokhara–Chitwan circuit at 5-star typically starts at ₹95,000 per person, twin sharing, rising with suites, private flights and top lodges.
Outside the capital, Tiger Mountain Pokhara Lodge and The Pavilions Himalayas offer private terraces facing the Annapurna range. In Chitwan, Meghauli Serai and Barahi Jungle Lodge run naturalist-led safaris and riverside dining. Shinta Mani Mustang in Jomsom, opened in 2023, brings high-end comfort to the Kali Gandaki valley at about 2,700 m, with jeep and helicopter excursions to Muktinath and Lo Manthang. In the Khumbu, Yeti Mountain Home lodges and Hotel Everest View let trekkers and helicopter guests stay in more comfort along the Everest trail.
Private helicopters change what is possible. A charter for up to five seats to Everest with a Kala Patthar landing costs about US$5,000–6,500, and similar charters reach Annapurna Base Camp, Muktinath or Upper Mustang in a morning. Helicopters fly only in good weather, usually early, and carry fewer passengers at high landings, so plans need a buffer day. Luxury in Nepal is also about service: a private car and driver, a guide who knows your interests, and flexible timing. The best months are October–November and March–April, when rooms book out early.
How to choose
- Pick properties, then routes
Nepal has a short list of truly high-end hotels, and they shape the itinerary. Start with the stays you want, such as Dwarika's, Tiger Mountain Pokhara Lodge or Meghauli Serai, then plan transfers between them. Elsewhere, a good 4-star hotel is often the best option available.
- Fly private where roads are slow
Kathmandu to Pokhara is 6–8 hours by road but 25 minutes by plane or about 40 minutes by private helicopter. For Chitwan, Mustang or the Everest region, charters remove early starts and connection risk. They cost more but buy back whole days on a short trip.
- Ask for private guiding
A private guide and vehicle let you see Pashupatinath at dawn, linger in a Bhaktapur workshop or skip a site that does not interest you. We match guides to your interests, from Newar architecture to Buddhist art or birding, and build days around your pace rather than a group schedule.
- Book peak dates early
Top lodges have few rooms. For October, November and the Diwali period, book four to six months ahead; for Christmas and New Year, at least three months. Helicopter charters can be arranged a few weeks out, but fixed dates in peak season are safer secured early.
