Most couples arrive in Kathmandu and spend two nights among the courtyards of Patan and Bhaktapur. Dwarika's Hotel, built around centuries-old carved woodwork, is the classic honeymoon stay in the city. From there, a night at Nagarkot (about 2,200 m) or Dhulikhel puts the Himalaya outside your window at sunrise, with the Langtang range and, on very clear days, peaks towards Everest on the horizon. Club Himalaya in Nagarkot and Dwarika's Resort in Dhulikhel are popular, quiet choices for couples. Kathmandu to Nagarkot is about 32 km and 1.5 hours by road.
Pokhara is the heart of most honeymoon itineraries. Couples row across Phewa Lake to the Tal Barahi temple, watch sunrise from Sarangkot, paraglide in tandem and spend evenings at lakeside cafes. For a quieter stay, Tiger Mountain Pokhara Lodge on a ridge east of the city and The Pavilions Himalayas in the countryside west of Pokhara offer privacy and views of Machhapuchhre. Lakeside hotels cost far less and keep you within walking distance of restaurants. A 6-night Kathmandu–Nagarkot–Pokhara honeymoon at good 4-star hotels costs about ₹55,000–75,000 per person.
Chitwan's jungle lodges suit couples who want something different from a beach. Barahi Jungle Lodge, Kasara Resort and Meghauli Serai offer private villas, riverside dinners and naturalist-led safaris. For a splurge, a private helicopter charter to the Everest region with breakfast at Hotel Everest View (3,880 m) costs about US$5,000–6,500 for up to five seats. October to April is the best window; December and January are cool and crisp with clear views, which suits the Indian winter wedding season. Monsoon honeymoons are cheaper but cloudier.
How to choose
- Choose a pace for two
Two nights per stop is the minimum for a relaxed honeymoon. Six nights works well for Kathmandu, Pokhara and one sunrise or jungle stay; eight nights lets you add Chitwan and Nagarkot without rushing. Fly Kathmandu–Pokhara and keep the saved day for yourselves.
- Spend on one special stay
Rather than upgrading every night, many couples choose one standout property, such as Dwarika's in Kathmandu, Tiger Mountain Pokhara Lodge or a Chitwan jungle lodge, and keep the rest at good 3- or 4-star hotels. The memory usually comes from the setting and the view rather than the room size.
- Add one shared adventure
A tandem paragliding flight in Pokhara, a canoe ride in Chitwan, a short trek to Australian Camp or an Everest mountain flight gives you a story to share. Pick something both of you will enjoy; a sunrise boat on Phewa Lake can be as memorable as a helicopter.
- Mind the season and festivals
October and November bring clear skies and Dashain and Tihar celebrations, but hotels fill early. December to February is quieter and suits winter weddings, though mornings are cold. April brings rhododendrons in the hills. Book Pokhara and Chitwan lodges two to three months ahead for peak dates.
