Cholang Pati is a small clearing with a couple of lodges on the trail above Chandanbari, at about 3,584 m. The path climbs through fir and rhododendron forest for about an hour, gaining 250 m, and comes out on an open shoulder where the trees thin. On clear mornings Langtang Lirung (7,227 m) dominates the view to the north, the Ganesh Himal rises to the west, and on very clear days Manaslu appears further west.
Start 45 minutes before sunrise with a headlamp. The first light catches the summits while the valleys below are still dark, and forest birds start calling as you climb. Himalayan monal, the colourful national bird of Nepal, is often seen in the open areas near Cholang Pati in the early morning. Return to Chandanbari for breakfast, or continue on to Lauribina and Gosaikunda if this is your trekking day.
For families on a short Sing Gompa trek, this is the high point of the trip and a safe height for children who have acclimatised overnight at Chandanbari. For pilgrims heading to Gosaikunda, going up and back down to sleep is excellent acclimatisation. Carry a warm jacket, gloves and water.

Questions travellers ask
How high is Cholang Pati?
Cholang Pati lies at about 3,584 m, roughly 250 m above Chandanbari (Sing Gompa) and on the main trail to Lauribina and Gosaikunda. The climb takes about an hour. It is a good viewpoint and a safe target for families who do not want to go to the lake at 4,380 m.
Can children do the Cholang Pati hike?
Yes, children aged about 7 and above who have trekked to Chandanbari usually manage it well. The trail is steady, not exposed, and takes about an hour up. Go slowly, keep them warm and well fed, and turn back if they complain of headache or nausea, which can signal altitude sickness.
What birds can be seen at Cholang Pati?
Himalayan monal, blood pheasant, spotted nutcracker and various tits and laughingthrushes are common in the forest and clearings around Cholang Pati in the early morning. Lammergeiers and Himalayan griffons often soar overhead later in the day. Bring binoculars and walk quietly.
