What a Langtang trek costs in total
Langtang is one of the most affordable Himalayan treks in Nepal because there are no domestic flights. Everything starts with a 122 km drive from Kathmandu to Syabrubesi, and the trek itself uses family-run teahouse lodges where rooms are cheap and meals make up most of the daily spend. Since April 2023 foreign trekkers in Langtang National Park must hire a licensed guide through a registered agency, so most visitors now book a package rather than trekking independently.
For a typical 8-day Langtang Valley trek with a private jeep, licensed guide, one porter between two trekkers, lodges, three meals a day and permits, expect US$ 600–800 per person on a twin-sharing basis. Our own 8-day package starts at US$ 690 or ₹58,000. The 11-day Langtang–Gosaikunda trek costs around US$ 850–950, and the 14-day Langtang–Gosaikunda–Helambu traverse US$ 1,050–1,200. Prices drop slightly for larger groups because jeep and guide costs are shared.
Cost breakdown by item
The table below shows typical costs per person for a Langtang Valley trek. Lodge and food prices rise with altitude because everything above Syabrubesi is carried up by porters or mules. Figures are indicative for 2025–26 and change with fuel prices and season, so check current status before you travel.

Food and lodge prices on the trail
Lodges in Langtang keep room rates low on the understanding that you eat dinner and breakfast where you sleep. A basic twin room costs NPR 500–1,000 at Lama Hotel or Langtang village, and NPR 1,500–3,000 for a newer room with an attached bathroom at Kyanjin Gompa. Some lodges offer a free room if you eat all meals there; others now charge a flat rate in peak season.
Food is where the money goes. Dal bhat, the Nepali meal of rice, lentils and vegetables with free refills, costs about NPR 450–600 in Syabrubesi and NPR 800–1,000 at Kyanjin. A pot of tea is NPR 300–700, an egg breakfast NPR 500–800 and a slice of yak cheese at Kyanjin a few hundred rupees per 100 g. If you pay your own meals, budget NPR 3,000–4,500 a day.
- Dal bhat: NPR 450–1,000, best value because of free refills
- Fried rice or noodles: NPR 400–800
- Tibetan bread with honey: NPR 300–500
- Pot of ginger lemon honey tea: NPR 400–800
- Boiled water refill: NPR 50–150 per litre
Guide, porter and agency fees
A licensed guide in Langtang usually costs US$ 30–40 a day when hired through an agency, which covers their wage, meals, lodging, insurance and transport. A porter costs US$ 20–25 a day and carries up to about 20–25 kg, normally the bags of two trekkers. Porter-guides, who carry a lighter load and guide, cost in between. For an 8-day trek, guide and porter costs for two trekkers come to roughly US$ 400–500, shared.
Agencies add the cost of permits, transport, office support, first-aid kit and emergency coordination. When comparing packages, check whether the price includes a private jeep or a bus, three meals a day or only lodging, and whether the guide is government-licensed. A cheap quote that excludes meals can end up costing more once you pay for food at Kyanjin prices.
Transport costs to and from Syabrubesi
Local buses from Kathmandu's Machhapokhari and Gongabu area to Syabrubesi cost about NPR 800–1,200 and take 7–8 hours. Shared jeeps cost roughly NPR 1,500–2,500 per seat and are faster. A private jeep for up to five or six people costs about NPR 15,000–20,000 each way, which for a group of four works out at under NPR 5,000 per person. Most packages, including ours, use a private jeep for comfort and safety.
Helicopters add flexibility at a price. A shared seat from Kyanjin Gompa back to Kathmandu costs about US$ 600, saving two walking days and the long drive. A day helicopter tour from Kathmandu with a Kyanjin landing starts at about US$ 650 per seat, or US$ 2,800–3,300 for a private five-seat charter.
Extras, tips and how to save money
Budget US$ 10–20 a day for extras not included in most packages: hot showers, phone and camera charging, Wi-Fi, bottled or boiled water, snacks, soft drinks and beer. These add up at Kyanjin, where a shower can cost NPR 400–500. Tipping is customary at the end of the trek; a common guideline is 10–15% of the trek cost, or about US$ 8–10 a day for a guide and US$ 5–7 a day for a porter, handed over at the farewell dinner.
To save money without cutting corners on safety, travel in a group of four to six to share jeep and guide costs, carry a water filter or purification tablets instead of buying bottled water, eat dal bhat rather than imported foods, charge devices with a power bank and solar panel, and trek in late November or early spring when some lodges offer lower rates. Indian trekkers benefit from the lower SAARC park fee.
Sample budget for two trekkers, 8 days
To make the numbers concrete, here is roughly how the money divides for two people on an 8-day Langtang Valley trek booked with an agency, with a private jeep both ways. The package price covers most of it, and the rest is spent on the trail and at the end. Figures are per couple, not per person, and assume no extra days for weather or road closures.
If you add a helicopter return from Kyanjin, swap one jeep leg for about US$ 600 per person and remove one walking day. If you join a group of six, the jeep and guide cost per person falls by about a third.
- Package for two (jeep, guide, porter, lodges, meals, permits): about US$ 1,380
- Showers, charging, Wi-Fi and drinks over 7 nights: about US$ 120–200
- Tips for guide and porter: about US$ 140–180
- Kathmandu hotel nights before and after: from about US$ 60–120
- Travel insurance with helicopter evacuation: varies by policy and age
Cost for Indian travellers
Indian trekkers pay the SAARC rate for Langtang National Park, NPR 1,500 instead of NPR 3,000, and lower rates at Shivapuri Nagarjun National Park. Prices for Indian groups are usually quoted in rupees: our 8-day Langtang Valley trek starts at ₹58,000, the 7-day Tamang Heritage Trail at ₹44,000 and the 7-day Gosaikunda Janai Purnima pilgrimage at ₹36,000 per person. How the 2023 licensed-guide rule applies to Indian nationals has been applied inconsistently, so check current status before you travel; we include a guide in all packages.

Yes, considerably. Langtang needs no Lukla flights, which alone cost US$ 400–500 return, and the trek is shorter, usually 7–8 days compared with 12–14 for Everest Base Camp. Food and lodges are also slightly cheaper. A guided Langtang trek costs roughly half the price of an Everest Base Camp trek.
How much money should I carry on the Langtang trek?
If your package includes meals, carry NPR 1,500–2,500 per day for extras such as showers, charging, drinks and snacks, plus tips at the end. If meals are not included, carry NPR 4,500–6,000 per day. There are no reliable ATMs beyond Syabrubesi, so withdraw cash in Kathmandu.

Can I do the Langtang trek on a budget?
Yes, Langtang is one of the cheapest Himalayan treks. Join a group to share jeep and guide costs, take a bus or shared jeep, eat dal bhat, carry a water filter and limit paid extras. A budget guided trek can cost around US$ 500–600, but avoid cutting the guide or insurance.
How much does the Langtang Gosaikunda trek cost?
An 11-day Langtang–Gosaikunda trek costs about US$ 850–950 per person with an agency, including transport, guide, porter, lodges, meals and permits. Our package starts at US$ 890 or ₹75,000. The 14-day version that continues over Lauribina La to Helambu starts at about US$ 1,090.
What does a Langtang trek package usually exclude?
