What a Nepal trip costs per person
We price every Nepal package per person on twin sharing, with hotel, breakfast, a private vehicle with driver, airport and border transfers, and sightseeing guided by a licensed city guide. Flights from India are usually quoted separately because fares move every week. The table below shows the ranges we actually quote for land packages in 2026, from the cheapest 3-star room to the top suites.
Two numbers explain most of the spread. Hotel class roughly doubles the price at each step from 3-star to 5-star, and every domestic flight you add (Kathmandu–Pokhara, Pokhara–Jomsom, Bharatpur–Kathmandu) adds ₹4,000–9,000 per person per leg. A trip that stays on the road and uses good 3-star hotels lands near the bottom of each range. Families of four in one vehicle pay less per head than a couple, because the car, driver and guide are shared.
Our own package levels sit inside these bands: Kathmandu city break 3 nights from ₹16,000, Kathmandu and Pokhara 5 nights from ₹24,000, Kathmandu–Pokhara–Chitwan 6 nights from ₹32,000, the 8-night grand tour from ₹48,000, the Muktinath yatra 7 nights from ₹45,000, the honeymoon package 6 nights from ₹55,000 and the 7-night luxury tour with Dwarika's Hotel from ₹1,35,000.
| Trip (land only) | 3-star | 4-star | 5-star |
|---|---|---|---|
| Kathmandu city break, 3 nights | ₹16,000–25,000 | ₹26,000–38,000 | ₹45,000–70,000 |
| Kathmandu + Pokhara, 5 nights | ₹24,000–35,000 | ₹38,000–55,000 | ₹70,000–95,000 |
| Kathmandu, Pokhara, Chitwan, 6 nights | ₹32,000–45,000 | ₹48,000–65,000 | ₹95,000–1,30,000 |
| Grand tour with Nagarkot and Bandipur, 8 nights | ₹48,000–62,000 | ₹65,000–85,000 | ₹1,30,000+ |
| Muktinath yatra via Pokhara and Jomsom, 7 nights | ₹45,000–60,000 | ₹60,000–78,000 | Limited 5-star options |
| Budget tour by tourist bus, 5 nights | ₹18,000–24,000 | Not offered | Not offered |
Flight costs from Delhi, Kolkata and Varanasi
Kathmandu's Tribhuvan International Airport (KTM) is the main gateway. Delhi–Kathmandu is a nonstop flight of about 1 h 40 min, flown by Air India, IndiGo and Nepal Airlines. Economy return fares booked 4–6 weeks ahead usually run ₹12,000–22,000 per person; around Dashain and Diwali in October and in the May–June school holidays we regularly see ₹25,000–32,000. Kolkata–Kathmandu takes about 1 h 15 min and is often ₹2,000–4,000 cheaper than Delhi.
Varanasi has had a direct link to Kathmandu of about 1 hour, popular with pilgrims combining Kashi Vishwanath and Pashupatinath; schedules on this route change by season, so check current status before you travel. From Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai and Hyderabad most travellers connect via Delhi or Kolkata, and the total return fare tends to be ₹18,000–30,000. Nepal's newer international airports at Bhairahawa (Gautam Buddha) and Pokhara have only a few scheduled international services, so we plan almost every itinerary around Kathmandu.
- Delhi–Kathmandu: ≈ 1 h 40 min, ₹12,000–22,000 return in normal weeks
- Kolkata–Kathmandu: ≈ 1 h 15 min, ₹10,000–18,000 return
- Varanasi–Kathmandu: ≈ 1 h, seasonal, check current schedules
- Peak weeks (Dashain, Diwali, May–June): add 30–50 percent
The road route via Sunauli, Raxaul or Kakarbhitta
Many Indian travellers from Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and West Bengal arrive by road. Sunauli–Belahiya, 95 km north of Gorakhpur, is the busiest crossing for tourists: from there Pokhara is about 180 km and 6–7 hours, and Kathmandu about 280 km and 8–10 hours. Raxaul–Birgunj suits Patna and north Bihar; Kathmandu is 6–8 hours from Birgunj depending on the route and road works. Kakarbhitta, 35 km from Siliguri and New Jalpaiguri, is about 470 km and 12–14 hours from Kathmandu by road, so we usually drive guests 25 km to Bhadrapur for a 45-minute flight instead.
Road entry saves the international airfare but not all the money. A Nepali private car with driver from Sunauli to Pokhara or Kathmandu costs roughly ₹9,000–15,000 per vehicle one way, and you spend a full day on the highway in each direction. For a family of four on a 6-night trip, the road route can save ₹30,000–50,000 in total; for a couple on a 3-night city break, the lost days usually make flying better value. A sensible mix is to enter at Sunauli, tour Lumbini, Pokhara and Chitwan, and fly home from Kathmandu.
What pushes the price up or down
Season matters more than most people expect. Rates for hotels and vehicles rise 20–35 percent in October–November and over Indian school holidays, while February, early March and September give the best value with reasonable weather. The other big drivers are listed below in the order they affect a typical quote.
- Hotel class and room type: a lake-view or deluxe room in Pokhara adds ₹1,500–4,000 per night
- Domestic flights instead of road: Kathmandu–Pokhara saves 6–8 hours each way but adds a fare per leg
- Meal plan: breakfast only (CP) versus breakfast and dinner (MAP) changes the price by ₹800–1,500 per person per night
- Private car versus tourist bus: a Kathmandu–Pokhara tourist bus seat costs about ₹1,000–1,500, a private car ₹9,000–13,000
- Group size: a car seats 3 guests, a Toyota Hiace 9–12, so groups of 6–10 pay the least per person
- Add-ons: Everest mountain flight ≈ ₹13,000–17,000, Chitwan jungle activities ₹2,500–5,000, Muktinath heli ₹45,000–65,000 per seat
- Monument fees: Indian nationals pay the lower SAARC rate, for example NPR 150 instead of NPR 1,000 at Kathmandu Durbar Square
Sample budgets for three kinds of trip
These are per-person totals for two adults sharing, travelling from Delhi in a normal week. They include flights, the land package, entry fees, lunches, small tips and a modest shopping allowance. Real quotes will move with dates and hotel availability, and fees are set by the Nepali authorities, so check current status before you travel.
The budget line assumes entering by road at Sunauli, tourist buses, and simple but clean 3-star hotels in Thamel and Lakeside. The mid-range line flies Delhi–Kathmandu and uses 4-star hotels with a private car. The luxury line covers Dwarika's Hotel in Kathmandu, a 5-star resort in Pokhara and a top jungle lodge in Chitwan, with flights for both domestic legs.
| Per person | Budget, 5 nights | Mid-range, 6 nights | Luxury, 7 nights |
|---|---|---|---|
| Getting to Nepal | ₹2,500 (train + border transfer) | ₹16,000 (Delhi flights) | ₹22,000 (Delhi flights) |
| Hotels and transport package | ₹18,000 | ₹48,000 | ₹1,35,000 |
| Domestic flights | None | ₹6,000 | ₹14,000 |
| Entry fees and activities | ₹1,500 | ₹5,000 | ₹12,000 |
| Lunches, tips, extras | ₹4,000 | ₹8,000 | ₹15,000 |
| Approximate total | ₹26,000 | ₹83,000 | ₹1,98,000 |
Daily spending once you are in Nepal
Packages cover the big costs, but lunches, drinks and small extras are paid locally. Prices in Nepal are set in Nepali rupees (NPR), and 1 Indian rupee equals 1.6 NPR at the fixed rate, so an NPR 800 thali costs ₹500. Restaurants in Thamel and Lakeside add 10 percent service charge and 13 percent VAT to the menu price, which surprises many first-time visitors.
For a couple on a mid-range package we suggest planning around these local prices. Cash still works best at small temples, tea stalls and boat counters, while hotels and larger shops take cards.
- Veg thali or dal bhat in a local restaurant: NPR 400–800 (₹250–500)
- Lunch in a tourist restaurant in Thamel or Lakeside: NPR 1,200–2,000 (₹750–1,250) per person
- Boat on Phewa Lake to Tal Barahi temple: about NPR 700–1,000 per boat (check)
- Tip for a driver: ₹300–500 per day; for a full-day city guide: ₹500–800
- Pashmina shawl or singing bowl: NPR 2,500–15,000 depending on quality
How we keep a package good value
Most savings come from planning, not from cheaper hotels. We book October and November trips 8–10 weeks ahead, because the good 3-star rooms in Pokhara fill first. We route guests so that no single day has more than one long drive, which avoids an extra hotel night caused by a late arrival. Where the road is reliable we drive one way and fly the other, cutting a 7-hour drive without paying two airfares.
Ask your agent exactly what the price includes: the number of breakfasts and dinners, a private or shared vehicle, a licensed full-day guide or a half-day one, and which monument fees are in the quote. A package that looks ₹4,000 cheaper often leaves out entry fees, the Sarangkot sunrise drive or Chitwan park permits. Our quotes list each of these lines, and we show the hotel names before you pay a deposit.

Questions travellers ask
What is the cost of a Nepal tour package from India?
A Nepal tour package from India starts at about ₹16,000 per person for 3 nights in Kathmandu at a 3-star hotel, and about ₹32,000 for 6 nights across Kathmandu, Pokhara and Chitwan. Prices are per person on twin sharing and usually exclude flights from India, which add ₹12,000–22,000 return from Delhi. At 4-star expect 40–60 percent more, and at 5-star roughly three times the 3-star price.
How much does a 5 day Nepal trip cost from Delhi?
A 5-day, 4-night Nepal trip from Delhi costs about ₹30,000–45,000 per person with 3-star hotels, including return flights of ₹12,000–22,000. That covers Kathmandu sightseeing plus either Pokhara or Nagarkot. With 4-star hotels and a private car throughout, the total is closer to ₹50,000–65,000. Booking flights 4–6 weeks ahead and avoiding Diwali week keeps the airfare near the lower end.
Is it cheaper to go to Nepal by road or by flight?
Going by road through Sunauli or Raxaul is cheaper but slower. A train to Gorakhpur and a transfer to the border may cost ₹1,500–3,000, against ₹12,000–22,000 for return flights from Delhi. The catch is time: Kathmandu is 8–10 hours by car from Sunauli. Road travel suits families and trips of 6 nights or more; for short breaks, flying is usually better value.
How much money should I carry to Nepal for 5 days?
On a package that already includes hotels, breakfast and transport, carry about ₹8,000–12,000 per person for 5 days. That covers lunches at ₹300–800, entry fees not in your quote, tips for driver and guide, and some shopping. Independent travellers paying for everything should budget ₹3,500–6,000 per person per day at 3-star level. Mix cash with a debit card for ATM backup.
What is the cost of a Nepal honeymoon package from India?
A 6-night Nepal honeymoon package covering Kathmandu, Nagarkot and Pokhara costs from about ₹55,000 per person with 4-star hotels, mountain-view rooms and a private car. With Dwarika's Hotel or a 5-star Pokhara resort it rises to ₹90,000–1,40,000 per person. Flights from India are extra. October–November and February–April give the clearest Himalayan views for the sunrise mornings couples come for.
Do Indians pay less for sightseeing in Nepal?
Yes. Indian nationals pay the SAARC rate at most monuments, often 70–90 percent less than other foreigners. Kathmandu Durbar Square is about NPR 150 for SAARC visitors against NPR 1,000, and Bhaktapur is about NPR 500 against NPR 1,800. Indian Hindus enter Pashupatinath free for darshan. Carry your passport or voter ID at ticket counters, and check current status before you travel as fees change.
Are flights included in Nepal tour packages from India?
Most Nepal tour packages quote the land portion only, without flights from India, because fares change daily and many guests use their own miles or travel by road. Domestic flights inside Nepal, such as Kathmandu–Pokhara or Pokhara–Jomsom, are included when the itinerary uses them. Always confirm in writing which flights are in the price, and the baggage allowance on small domestic planes.
What is the cheapest time to visit Nepal from India?
The cheapest months are June to August, when hotel rates in Pokhara and Chitwan drop 25–40 percent, but monsoon rain hides the mountains and landslides can block highways. For value with decent weather, we suggest February, early March and the second half of September. Avoid Dashain, Diwali and the May–June Indian school holidays if price is your main concern.
How much does a Nepal trip cost for a family of four?
A family of four on a 6-night Kathmandu, Pokhara and Chitwan tour pays about ₹1,20,000–1,60,000 for the land package with 3-star family rooms, as children under 12 sharing a room cost less. Add Delhi flights of roughly ₹50,000–80,000 for four. Entering by road at Sunauli and flying home from Kathmandu can save ₹25,000–40,000 on the total.
