Dhulikhel Mountain Resort is one of the older hill resorts east of Kathmandu, built in 1981 and refurbished since. Rooms are spread through landscaped gardens in low bungalow blocks, simply furnished with Nepali rugs and wood, and most look north toward the snow peaks from Langtang to Gauri Shankar. It sits just off the Araniko Highway beyond Dhulikhel town, so the drive from Kathmandu is about 1 to 1.5 hours.
We place guests here when they want mountain mornings without Nagarkot's colder nights: at about 1,550 m Dhulikhel stays several degrees warmer. It suits our valley rim trek, our yoga and meditation retreat and families who want space and gardens. The resort is a practical starting point for the 3 to 4 hour walk to Namobuddha and for an afternoon in Panauti, 7 km away. Expect comfortable, unfussy rooms rather than luxury finishes.

Questions travellers ask
Which mountains can you see from Dhulikhel Mountain Resort?
On clear mornings, mainly October to March, the view runs from Langtang Lirung and Dorje Lakpa through the Jugal Himal to Gauri Shankar and, on the best days, Numbur. Monsoon months from June to September usually hide the peaks in cloud. Sunrise around 6 to 6.30 am in autumn gives the sharpest light.
Is Dhulikhel Mountain Resort good for the Namobuddha hike?
Yes. The resort is close to the start of the trail through Kavre villages to Namobuddha, a walk of about 3 to 4 hours one way with roughly 300 m of ascent. We usually walk out in the morning, have lunch near the monastery and return by car. The route is easy and suits fit families and older walkers.
Dhulikhel or Nagarkot for one night?
Nagarkot sits higher at about 2,175 m and gives a wider mountain panorama, but nights are colder. Dhulikhel, at about 1,550 m, is warmer, has a Newar old town to walk through and connects easily to Namobuddha and Panauti. For pure sunrise views choose Nagarkot; for culture plus views and milder nights choose Dhulikhel.
