Dwarika's grew out of one man's salvage project. From the 1950s Dwarika Das Shrestha collected carved windows, struts and door frames being thrown out as old Kathmandu houses came down, and the hotel was later built to give those pieces a home. The result is a cluster of red-brick buildings, terracotta and latticed windows arranged around quiet courtyards and fountains, with the noise of the Ring Road kept outside the walls. Rooms follow the same Newar style, with handmade textiles and wood details.
Location suits sightseeing: Pashupatinath is about 1.5 km away and Boudhanath roughly 3 km, so both can be visited early before tour buses arrive, and the airport is around 15 to 20 minutes by car outside rush hour. The hotel's Krishnarpan restaurant serves long multi-course Nepali dinners that many of our honeymoon and luxury guests book for one night of the trip. Rates sit at the top of the Kathmandu market, so we use Dwarika's mainly in our luxury and honeymoon packages.

Questions travellers ask
How far is Dwarika's Hotel from Kathmandu airport?
Dwarika's is in Battisputali, roughly 3 km from Tribhuvan International Airport, which usually means 15 to 20 minutes by car. At peak traffic hours, around 9 to 11 am and 5 to 7 pm, allow 30 minutes or more. Our packages include the airport transfer, and for early Everest mountain flights the short drive to the domestic terminal is a real advantage.
Is Dwarika's Hotel worth the price for a Nepal honeymoon?
For couples who want their Kathmandu nights to feel distinctive, yes. The hotel is built from salvaged Newar carvings around calm courtyards, it is close to Pashupatinath and Boudhanath, and the Krishnarpan dinner is a memorable evening. If you will be out sightseeing from 8 am to 6 pm every day, a 5-star city hotel such as Yak & Yeti gives good comfort for less money.
Can we walk to Pashupatinath from Dwarika's?
Yes. Pashupatinath is about 1.5 km from the hotel, a 20 to 25 minute walk through local streets, though most guests take a short taxi ride to save energy and avoid traffic on the Ring Road crossing. Going for the evening aarti and returning by car after dark is the plan we usually suggest. Check current aarti timings before you travel.
