Koshi Camp has been a base for birdwatching groups visiting Koshi Tappu for many years, and it appears in the itineraries of several international nature tour operators. It sits in Madhuban, a farming village on the eastern side of the reserve, about 7 km from the highway, close to the embankment walks and a short drive from the river put-ins. Accommodation is in walk-in safari tents on raised platforms, with a central dining tent and bar serving Nepali and international food on full board.
What makes the camp useful is its focus. Staff naturalists know the reserve's birds and calls, and the camp's own pond and hide let you watch birds between outings without leaving the grounds. Days follow a birders' rhythm: dawn walks on the embankment, a river float or a drive to the Koshi Barrage, an afternoon rest in the heat and a second outing towards dusk. Facilities are simple rather than luxurious, and power can be limited, so bring a torch and a power bank.

Questions travellers ask
When is Koshi Camp open?
The camp operates mainly in the dry season, roughly October to April, which is also the birding season. It may close or offer limited service in the hot, flood-prone monsoon months. Check current status before you travel.
Are meals included at Koshi Camp?
Stays are normally booked on a full-board basis with naturalist-led activities, because there are few other places to eat nearby. Our Koshi Tappu package includes all meals at the camp.
How far is Koshi Camp from Biratnagar airport?
About 1.5–2 hours by road via Itahari and the East–West Highway, then a short drive on village roads to Madhuban. We arrange the transfer with your package.
