Leave Namche at about 7 am, while the sky is clear, and climb the steep stone steps behind the village to the ridge at Syangboche (≈ 3,750 m). The grass airstrip here is used mostly by helicopters and cargo. The trail then contours through juniper and dwarf rhododendron to Hotel Everest View, a Japanese-built hotel opened in 1971 and listed in Guinness World Records as the highest-placed hotel at the time. The walk takes about 1.5 to 2 hours at an acclimatisation pace.
The terrace looks straight up the Imja valley. Everest (8,849 m) shows its summit pyramid above the Nuptse–Lhotse ridge, Ama Dablam (6,812 m) stands to the right, and Tengboche monastery sits on its forested ridge below. Order tea, coffee or a set breakfast: prices are high by trail standards because everything is flown or carried in. Sit for 30–45 minutes, which is the useful part for your body, and watch helicopters arrive with day visitors.
From the hotel, many groups walk down to Khumjung to see the Hillary School and the monastery with its yeti scalp, then return to Namche over the ridge, making a loop of four to five hours. Others go straight back via Syangboche. Either way you sleep at 3,440 m having climbed to 3,880 m, which helps you adapt. If you feel a headache, tell your guide and go down early.

Questions travellers ask
How long does it take to walk from Namche to Hotel Everest View?
About 1.5–2 hours up and 1–1.5 hours down, climbing roughly 450 m. The first half hour of steps above Namche is the steepest part. With a loop through Khumjung, plan four to five hours in total, which makes a good acclimatisation day.
Can I stay overnight at Hotel Everest View?
Yes, the hotel has rooms facing Everest, and some luxury and heli itineraries include a night. Sleeping at 3,880 m soon after arriving from Kathmandu raises the risk of headaches, so it suits travellers who have already spent nights in Namche or who are on a short, slow itinerary.
Do I need to book breakfast at Hotel Everest View?
Trekkers can usually walk in and order tea or a meal without booking. Helicopter tours book breakfast in advance. In peak weeks the terrace gets busy from 8 to 10 am, so earlier is quieter. Expect to pay several times trail-lodge prices.
