Tikapur is a small town on the Karnali river in eastern Kailali, about 2 hours from Dhangadhi. Its park, laid out in the time of King Mahendra, is one of the largest public gardens in western Nepal, with flower beds, shaded paths, lawns and space for picnics and games.
Local families come on weekends and holidays, so the park offers a glimpse of ordinary far-western life. Late afternoon is the nicest time, when the heat drops and the light across the Karnali turns gold. The river here is wide and braided as it leaves the hills near Chisapani and heads towards India.
Combine the park with a stop at Ghodaghodi Tal on the highway, or use it as a break on the drive between Dhangadhi and Bardia. Snack stalls and small restaurants operate nearby.

Late afternoon from October to March, when it is warm but not hot and the light over the Karnali is soft. Weekends are lively with families; weekdays are quieter. Avoid midday from April to June, when temperatures often pass 40 °C.
