October closes the Kailash season. The last yatra groups usually return by early or mid October, when snow and nights near −10 °C on Dolma La end the parikrama and services in Darchen wind down. Central Tibet, by contrast, is in excellent shape: Lhasa, Gyantse and Shigatse are dry and clear, and Rongbuk gives some of the sharpest views of Everest's north face. China's national holiday week at the start of the month brings domestic crowds to Lhasa.
