Bimthang faces east towards Manaslu, so evening light falls directly on the mountain's western flanks. In October the show begins around 5 pm and lasts about half an hour, with the snow turning gold, then orange, then a deep pink before fading to grey. The meadow below goes into shadow early and the temperature drops quickly.
For a higher viewpoint, walk 10 to 15 minutes up the moraine ridge behind the lodges. From there you see the Bimthang Glacier winding towards the mountain and the line of the trail down from Larkya La. A wide lens fits the meadow and peak together; a zoom picks out the icefalls.
Dress warmly, even if you are tired from the pass. A down jacket, hat and gloves are needed once the sun goes, and a headtorch for the walk back.

Questions travellers ask
Can you see Manaslu from Bimthang?
Yes. Bimthang gives a close view of Manaslu's west and north faces, especially at sunset and sunrise. Himlung Himal and Cheo Himal are also visible to the north. Clouds often build in the afternoon, so clear evenings are not guaranteed, but October and November give the best chance.
What time is sunset in Bimthang in October?
Around 5:30 to 5:45 pm in early October and about 5:15 pm in early November. The best light on Manaslu starts 20 to 30 minutes before sunset. Plan to be outside by 5 pm with warm clothing.
Is Bimthang a good place to fly a drone?
Drone use in Nepal needs permission, and restricted areas and conservation areas have extra rules. Many trekkers fly without permits, but you risk confiscation. Check current regulations before you travel, and never fly near lodges, animals or people without consent.
