The hotel was built by a Japanese developer, Takashi Miyahara, and opened in 1971 on a ridge chosen for its direct line of sight up the Imja valley to Everest. Low stone buildings blend into the hillside among juniper and dwarf rhododendron, and the dining room and terrace look across the valley to Everest's summit pyramid above the Nuptse–Lhotse ridge, Ama Dablam to the right and Tengboche monastery on its ridge below. Rooms face the same view, so you can watch dawn light on Everest from bed.
Most visitors come for an hour: trekkers walking up from Namche on their acclimatisation day, and helicopter guests who land on the hotel's helipad for breakfast after flying past Kala Patthar. Overnight stays suit travellers who have already spent at least a night or two at Namche or who are on a slow luxury itinerary, because sleeping at 3,880 m soon after arriving from Kathmandu can cause headaches and poor sleep. Food and drink prices reflect the cost of flying supplies in.

Questions travellers ask
Can I stay overnight at Hotel Everest View?
Yes. The hotel has rooms facing Everest and offers overnight stays. Because it sits at about 3,880 m, we recommend staying only after acclimatising in Namche for a night or two, or on a slow luxury itinerary. Heli guests usually visit for breakfast only.
Can trekkers visit Hotel Everest View without staying?
Yes. Trekkers on the Namche rest day commonly walk up for tea, coffee or a meal on the terrace and continue to Khumjung. There is no entry fee, but prices for food and drinks are well above trail lodges.
Is Hotel Everest View the highest hotel in the world?
It was listed by Guinness World Records in 2004 as the highest-placed hotel, at about 3,880 m. Other lodges in the Himalaya and elsewhere are higher, but it remains one of the highest hotels with full hotel service and the most famous Everest view.
