The Shangri-La stands at 19 Norbulingka Road, close to the walls of the Norbulingka park and about 1.5 km from the Potala Palace. Its public spaces use Tibetan colours, carved wood and thangka-inspired art, and guest rooms are spacious with heating and large bathrooms. Upper floors on the city side look towards the Potala. The hotel has operated in Lhasa since the mid-2010s and is one of the city's two best-known international luxury hotels.
We use it on premium Lhasa tours and Tibet group tours, often as an alternative to the St. Regis when clients want to be on the Potala and Norbulingka side of town. Guests have praised its breakfast and oxygen lounge, while some recent reviews mention rooms showing their age, so we request renovated rooms where possible. Facilities can change; we confirm what is open at booking.

Questions travellers ask
Where is the Shangri-La Hotel in Lhasa?
At 19 Norbulingka Road in western Lhasa, next to the Norbulingka summer palace and about 1.5 km from the Potala. The Jokhang and Barkhor are about 15 minutes away by car. Lhasa Gonggar airport is about an hour's drive.
Is the Shangri-La or St. Regis better in Lhasa?
Both are luxury hotels. The St. Regis is closer to the old town and Barkhor and has a resort feel; the Shangri-La is beside the Norbulingka and near the Potala, with an oxygen lounge. Choice usually comes down to location and price on your dates. We quote both.
Does the Shangri-La Lhasa serve Indian vegetarian food?
The hotel restaurants offer vegetarian dishes and international buffets, and the kitchen can usually prepare simple Indian-style vegetarian food on request. Choice is narrower than in India. Tell us your dietary needs at booking and we will inform the hotel.
