The St. Regis Lhasa Resort

The St. Regis Lhasa Resort opened in 2010 on Jiangsu Road, about 1.5 km from the Jokhang, as the first international luxury resort in Tibet. It suits travellers who want space, quiet and full-service comfort while adjusting to Lhasa's 3,656 m altitude.

The St. Regis sits on Jiangsu Road on the eastern side of central Lhasa, a short drive or a 20–25 minute walk from the Barkhor and Jokhang. Its low-rise buildings in Tibetan style spread around courtyards, with views towards the Potala and the hills from some rooms. Inside, the style mixes Tibetan motifs, dark wood and contemporary design, and rooms are generously sized with heating suited to Lhasa's cold nights.

For our luxury Lhasa and Tibet tours, we choose the St. Regis when clients want the highest level of comfort and service available in the city: restaurants serving Chinese, Tibetan and international food, an indoor pool and spa, and staff used to guests arriving tired from the flight and the altitude. Facilities and dining options can change, so we confirm details at booking. Expect prices well above other Lhasa hotels, especially from May to October.

Questions travellers ask

How far is the St. Regis Lhasa from the Potala Palace?

The St. Regis is on Jiangsu Road in eastern Lhasa, roughly 1.5 km from the Jokhang and about 3 km from the Potala, around 10 minutes by vehicle. Our guide and driver handle all sightseeing transfers, and the Barkhor is close enough to walk to in the evening if you feel well.

Does the St. Regis Lhasa provide oxygen?

Luxury hotels in Lhasa, including the St. Regis, have generally offered oxygen on request for guests feeling the altitude. Arrangements can change, so we confirm before arrival. Oxygen helps with mild discomfort but is not a substitute for rest, hydration and descending if symptoms are severe.

Can Indian travellers stay at the St. Regis Lhasa on a Kailash yatra?

Yes, on itineraries that pass through Lhasa, such as our Kailash yatra with Lhasa fly-in, the St. Regis can be booked as an upgrade for the Lhasa nights. It does not affect permits. Vegetarian meals are available in the hotel restaurants.
