The Old Inn occupies two neighbouring houses on the stone-paved main street of Bandipur, restored to keep their red brick walls, carved wooden doorways, lattice windows and low beamed ceilings. One wing is roughly 150 years old and the other about 250, from the era when Bandipur was a prosperous stop on the trade route between India and Tibet. Rooms, about 20 in all, are spread over three floors, each different in size and shape, with en suite bathrooms; some look out over the Himalaya, others over the bazaar.
Meals mix Nepali and continental dishes and are served in a dining room opening onto the street or on a quieter terrace at the back with mountain views on clear days. Breakfast is included. Staying here lets you enjoy Bandipur after the day visitors have gone: sunset at the tundikhel, an evening stroll along the lantern-lit street and sunrise from the terrace. Stairs are steep and narrow, as in all old Newar houses.

Questions travellers ask
Is The Old Inn Bandipur suitable for seniors?
Yes, with care. The house has steep, narrow wooden stairs typical of old Newar buildings, so ask for a lower-floor room. The bazaar itself is flat and car-free. Porters carry luggage from the car park at the entrance to the bazaar, a few minutes' walk.
Do rooms at The Old Inn have mountain views?
Some do. Rooms vary in size and outlook: some face the Himalaya across the valley, others look over the bazaar street. Mountain-view rooms are limited, so request one early. The back terrace has a view for everyone on clear days.
Can cars reach The Old Inn?
No. Bandipur's main bazaar is closed to vehicles. Cars park at the entrance to the town, a few minutes' walk away, and hotel staff carry luggage. This keeps the street quiet and safe, and is part of the town's charm.
