Tiger Mountain Pokhara Lodge opened in the late 1990s on a forested ridge above the Pokhara valley, built from local stone and slate in the style of a hill village. It has only around 18 rooms, set in cottages with private verandas facing either the mountains or the valley. The main lodge holds a lounge with a fireplace, a dining room serving set menus that use produce from the garden and local farms, and a terrace that looks straight across to Machhapuchhre and the Annapurnas.
Days here are slow by design. Lodge naturalists lead bird walks in the surrounding forest and hikes to nearby villages, and there is an outdoor pool on the ridge with the mountains as the backdrop. Yoga, meditation and Ayurvedic and other massages can be booked, and the lodge arranges paragliding, ultralight flights and Lakeside visits for those who want them. The lodge is known for its work with nearby communities and its sustainable approach. Rates are usually full board.
