Nepal Honeymoon Ideas by Season

By Best Nepal Tour Package Travel Desk ·

Pick the season, then the place

Most Indian couples choose their honeymoon dates by the wedding, not by the weather, so we plan the other way round: start with the month you can travel and pick the parts of Nepal that are at their best then. Nepal is small but rises from 150 m in the Terai to over 8,000 m in the Himalaya, which means some corner of the country works in every month.

Two things stay the same all year. Indian citizens need no visa, only a valid passport or voter ID, and the names on your ID must match your flight tickets exactly; if the bride's documents are still in her maiden name, book every ticket in that name. And a marriage certificate is not needed to share a room in Nepali hotels.

October and November: clear mornings

This is the season for mountain views. After the monsoon the air is washed clean, and from Sarangkot at 1,600 m or the Nagarkot ridge at 2,175 m you watch the sun light Dhaulagiri, Annapurna and Machhapuchhre one peak at a time. Days in Pokhara are warm enough for a boat on Phewa Lake, and evenings are cool enough for a jacket.

Our 6-night honeymoon package fits this season well: a forest resort on the edge of Kathmandu, one night at Club Himalaya in Nagarkot facing the Himalaya, and three nights at a lakeside resort in Pokhara, with flights between Kathmandu and Pokhara. It starts at ₹55,000 per person. For a special morning, add the Everest helicopter tour with breakfast at 3,880 m. Dashain and Tihar fall in these months, so book 8–10 weeks ahead.

Couples who want the top hotels without long drives can take our 7-night luxury tour instead: three nights at Dwarika's Hotel in Kathmandu, built around brick courtyards and carved Newar woodwork, two at a 5-star resort in Pokhara and two at a luxury jungle lodge in Chitwan, linked by two short flights. It starts at ₹1,35,000 per person.

December to February: winter weddings

Couples married in the November–February wedding season get the clearest skies of the year and fewer tourists. Pokhara stays mild at around 20 °C by day, though nights drop to 5–7 °C and Nagarkot can touch 0 °C, so pack woollens. Chitwan is cool and comfortable, with misty mornings that clear by late morning into good safari weather.

For a quiet start to married life, the 4-night Pokhara package splits two nights at Temple Tree Resort and Spa in Lakeside and two at Fish Tail Lodge, reached by a hand-pulled raft across Phewa Lake, with a private sunrise drive, couple's spa session and candle-lit dinner, from ₹34,000 per person. Couples who want more privacy can swap to Tiger Mountain Pokhara Lodge, about 10 km east of town on a ridge. Christmas and New Year dates cost extra.

March to June: flowers, forest and safari

Spring brings warm days and rhododendron forests in flower in the hills above Pokhara, though haze often softens the far views by mid-morning. This is a good season for couples who like to walk: our 7-day Annapurna luxury lodge trek stays below 2,100 m with short days and comfortable lodges, from ₹1,88,000 per person.

It is also the best time for wildlife. Chitwan's tall grass is cut from February, so rhinos and the occasional tiger are easier to see. Meghauli Serai, a Taj safari lodge on the Rapti, has river-view rooms and villas, some with plunge pools; our 3-night luxury safari there starts at ₹1,16,000 per person. By May and June the plains reach 35–40 °C, so keep safaris to early mornings or head for the hills. April–June wedding couples often split the trip between Pokhara and the cooler air of Mustang.

July to September: rain-shadow Mustang

The monsoon covers most of Nepal from mid-June to mid-September. Pokhara gets some of the heaviest rain in the country, the mountains hide behind cloud, and hill roads can be blocked by landslides. Prices drop, and Kathmandu's temples, courtyards and cafes still work well on a rainy afternoon.

The exception is Mustang, which lies behind the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges and gets little rain. Jomsom at 2,720 m is cool and mostly dry in July and August, and Shinta Mani Mustang, a luxury resort that opened in Jomsom in 2023, makes a comfortable base for Kagbeni, Marpha's apple orchards and Muktinath. Jomsom flights from Pokhara are often delayed by cloud in these months, so keep a spare day, and check current status before you travel.

If you stay in the Kathmandu Valley during the rains, choose a hotel that is a destination in itself. Dwarika's, Hotel Shanker in a Rana-era palace in Lazimpat, or Gokarna Forest Resort inside a former royal hunting forest all make a wet afternoon pleasant, and Bhaktapur and Patan are at their quietest. Teej, the festival when married women fast and dance in red saris, usually falls in August or September and is worth seeing at Pashupatinath.

Small things that make the trip

Indian couples pay SAARC rates at monuments, well below foreign fees, and our INR prices assume Indian-national domestic fares. Foreign couples pay the USD price. Fees change, so check current status before you travel.

  • Ask for a lake-facing or mountain-facing room when booking; it often costs ₹1,500–4,000 more per night and is worth it in Pokhara
  • Fly at least one leg between Kathmandu and Pokhara; the 25-minute flight saves a 6–8 hour drive
  • Plan only one early start in three days; sunrise drives begin around 5 am
  • Hindu couples can enter Pashupatinath for darshan and see the evening aarti on the Bagmati
  • Paragliding over Phewa Lake takes about 20–30 minutes in the air with a licensed tandem pilot
  • Keep your flight home for the afternoon or evening, since domestic flights can be delayed

Questions travellers ask

What is the best month for a honeymoon in Nepal?

October and November are the best months for clear mountain views and mild days, followed by February to April. December and January give the clearest skies but cold nights, which suits couples who like fireside evenings. In the July–September monsoon most of Nepal is rainy, but Mustang stays mostly dry and makes a good alternative.

How much does a Nepal honeymoon package cost from India?

A 4-night Pokhara honeymoon at boutique resorts starts at about ₹34,000 per person, and our 6-night Kathmandu, Nagarkot and Pokhara package with domestic flights starts at about ₹55,000 per person. Luxury trips with Dwarika's Hotel or a Chitwan safari lodge run from ₹1,16,000–1,35,000. Delhi–Kathmandu return flights add ₹12,000–22,000 per person.

Is Nepal good for a honeymoon in December?

Yes. December has some of the clearest mountain views of the year and fewer tourists than October. Pokhara is around 20 °C by day but 5–7 °C at night, and Nagarkot can reach 0 °C, so pack warm clothes. Christmas and New Year week carries higher hotel rates, so book that week early.

Do Indian couples need a marriage certificate in Nepal hotels?

No. Hotels in Nepal do not ask for a marriage certificate. Each person needs a valid Indian passport or voter ID card, as Aadhaar is not accepted. Make sure the name on each ID matches the domestic flight tickets exactly, which matters if the bride's documents are still in her maiden name.

Which is better for a honeymoon, Pokhara or Nagarkot?

Pokhara suits longer stays, with lake boating, paragliding, cafes and resorts such as Fish Tail Lodge and Temple Tree. Nagarkot, 32 km from Kathmandu at 2,175 m, is best for one night and a Himalayan sunrise from your balcony. Most couples do both: one night in Nagarkot and three in Pokhara.
