Meghauli Serai is part of Taj Safaris, the safari arm of India's Taj group, and the brand's only lodge in Nepal. It sits on the north bank of the Rapti in Meghauli, west Chitwan, with the park across the water. Rooms and villas are built in a style drawn from Tharu architecture, with mud-toned walls and verandas, and look across the river to the Meghauli grassland. Some villas have private plunge pools; there is also a main pool, a dining area overlooking the river and a spa.
Stays are usually sold as full-board safari packages, including meals, jeep safaris, boat trips, guided walks and village visits with the lodge's naturalists. The park entrance is a short boat crossing from the lodge. It is about an hour by road from Bharatpur Airport. We use Meghauli Serai on our luxury safari and honeymoon itineraries, and it is popular with Indian families looking for familiar Taj standards in the jungle.
