Barahi Jungle Lodge stands on about 12 acres of riverbank at Andrauli, Meghauli, in west Chitwan, directly across the Rapti from the park. Accommodation is in thatched cottages and rooms with private verandas, spread through gardens so that most look toward the river. There is an outdoor pool, a restaurant serving Nepali, Indian and international food, a bar and a terrace where guests gather to watch the far bank for rhinos and deer at dusk.
Like Meghauli Serai, it sells full-board packages with activities: jeep safaris into the western grasslands, canoe and boat trips, guided walks, birding and Tharu village visits. It is about 35 km and an hour from Bharatpur Airport. We use Barahi on our birding tour, because its naturalists know the Meghauli grassland well, and as a slightly lower-priced alternative to the Taj for luxury and family safaris.
Why we book it
- Thatched riverside cottages looking straight into the park
- Strong naturalist team for birding and grassland safaris
- Pool and gardens, at a lower price than the Taj
Best for

Questions travellers ask
Where is Barahi Jungle Lodge?
At Andrauli in Meghauli, west Chitwan, on the north bank of the Rapti facing Chitwan National Park. It is about 35 km and an hour by road from Bharatpur Airport, and around 190 km and 6–7 hours by road from Kathmandu.
Does Barahi Jungle Lodge offer elephant rides?
Some Chitwan lodges have offered elephant activities in the past. We do not book elephant rides or bathing at any property because of welfare concerns, and our packages at Barahi use jeep, boat, canoe and walking safaris, which show the park well.
Is Barahi Jungle Lodge good for birdwatching?
Yes. It sits beside the Meghauli grasslands and the Rapti, good for grassland and river birds, including the Bengal florican in spring. Ask for a birding naturalist when booking; we request one on our Chitwan birding tour.
