August remains wet and humid on the plains, but the hills are cooler and green. Tansen celebrates Bhagwati Jatra, its biggest festival, on the day after Krishna Janmashtami, when the goddess's chariot is pulled through the old town in memory of the 1815 battle. Roads to Tansen can be slow after rain. Lumbini is quiet, with good conditions for meditation and few visitors at the Maya Devi Temple.
