Muktinath and Damodar Kunda same-day heli

Two of Nepal's holiest Vishnu sites in one morning: a helicopter from Pokhara to Damodar Kunda for a short puja at the lakes, then down to Muktinath for an hour of darshan and the 108 spouts, back in Pokhara by lunch.

  • 4–5 hours from Pokhara
  • Early morning, Apr–Jun and Sep–Nov
  • ≈ ₹85,000–1,00,000 per seat from Pokhara

Pilgrims who cannot spare two weeks for the trek often choose this combined flight. We take off from Pokhara around 6:30 am, refuel at Jomsom and fly on to Damodar Kunda. The order matters: going to the higher site first while the air is cold and still gives the helicopter its best performance, and it keeps the longest ground time for Muktinath.

At the lakes you have about 10–15 minutes. Then the helicopter descends to Muktinath, about 15–20 minutes away, landing near Ranipauwa. With roughly an hour on the ground, there is time to walk up to the temple, take darshan of Sri Muktinarayan, sprinkle water from the 108 spouts and visit the Jwala Mai flame. Our guide manages shoes, bags and queues.

Return is via Jomsom to Pokhara, landing around 11 am to noon. The flight depends entirely on weather: if Damodar Kunda is clouded in, pilots may skip it and fly Muktinath only, with partial refund according to the operator's terms. Payload limits mean groups heavier than about 400 kg may be split. Bring warm clothes, sunglasses and your permits.

Questions travellers ask

Can we do Muktinath and Damodar Kunda in one day?

Yes, by helicopter. Flights from Pokhara visit Damodar Kunda first for 10–15 minutes and then Muktinath for about an hour, returning by midday. From Kathmandu it is possible but longer and costlier. By road or on foot, Damodar Kunda alone takes many days.

What happens if weather is bad at Damodar Kunda?

If cloud covers the basin, the pilot will not land and may fly to Muktinath only, or postpone the whole flight. Policies on refunds and rescheduling vary by operator; we agree them in writing before booking. Keeping a spare morning in Pokhara or Jomsom greatly improves your chances.

Do I need a permit for a heli trip to Damodar Kunda?

Yes. Damodar Kunda lies in the Upper Mustang restricted area, so even a short helicopter landing needs the restricted area permit for that day, plus the ACAP permit. Your agency arranges both in advance with passport or voter ID copies. Check current status before you travel.
