July is the wettest month. Rivers run high, side streams wash out bridges, and the road to Machha Khola is often closed. Mountain views are rare. Upper Tsum and the Nubri villages get far less rain than the lower gorge, and yak herders are up in the summer pastures, but the trek in is unpleasant and risky. Heli flights operate only in brief clear windows.
